Athletic Injury

Guidelines for Division 1, 3, and Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). 

Claims Process

  1. Student immediately notifies a trainer, coach, or athletic director of an injury.
  2. Athletic trainer submits initial injury claim to A-G Specialty Insurance after referral.
  3. Student submits medical invoices and corresponding Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to the designated Insurance Coordinator. 
  4. Insurance Coordinator uploads invoices to the A-G Specialty Insurance claim file.
  5. A-G Specialty Insurance reviews the claim and pays the healthcare provider directly. 
  6. Student checks A-G Specialty Insurance claim status.

Insurance Coverage

Covered Individuals

  • Athletes, trainers, managers, coaches, mascots, and performers
  • Excludes Intramural Sports Program, except club cheerleading and dance, when performing during varsity games

Covered Activities

  • Scheduled conference and non-conference games 
  • Sanctioned playoffs and tournaments
  • Supervised practices, including tryouts
  • Sponsored University events

Coverage Details

  • University Athletic Insurance functions as secondary coverage, helping cover medical expenses from sports injuries after exhaustion of an athlete’s personal medical insurance
  • Pays reasonable and customary medical expenses within 104 weeks of injury
  • Reimburses co-pays with receipts
